THE MODEL went on to record and release two studio albums: Darkness Within Darkness (2003) and Physical (2008). Physical was reviewed by both national and international outlets, and given a favorable reception among fans and press alike. After the release of Physical, Markie went on to help launch Class Actress with Elizabeth Harper. Class Actress, whose sound was once generously described by The New York Times as “an alluringly precise recapturing of the winning chill of early ‘80s electro-pop,” went on to release several records, beginning with Journal of Ardency in 2010, and the full-length album Rapprocher in 2011. Markie later contributed music and production to several tracks on Movies in 2015, and continues to collaborate with Class Actress on their evolving Sense Memory EP.
Displaced by COVID, as many have been in the past several years, Markie virtually reunited with Justin Paul, now in LA, to begin work on a new album for THE MODEL. LITTLE DREAMS is the first single. Markie recorded vocals and analog synthesizers from his basement outside Philadelphia, while Justin Paul recorded drum machines and sequences for the song in his LA living room. The files were then zipped over to 2x Grammy Award winning engineer and producer Vaughan Merrick (Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson), who mixed and mastered “Little Dreams” in his NYC studio.
On Nov 16, 2021, THE MODEL released “Physical (Deluxe Edition)” which contains the full album plus many remixes and demos. On Physical, you’ll find THE MODEL “pushing electronic music’s boundaries” (Big Shot) with “stop-the-presses-level radio-techno” (Glide Magazine), a “perfect example for dance parties” of “new-wave synth” (Slug Magazine).
